Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Starter plan is free forever and includes:

  • 1-2 users
  • 25 files
  • 50MB storage
  • 7-day version history
  • Unlimited projects

Can I try Professional or Business plans for free?

Yes. Both plans offer a 14-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card required to start the trial.

What happens if I exceed my plan limits?

Contextium provides a 7-day grace period when you exceed limits after a downgrade.

During Grace Period (Days 1-7):

  • Full access to all features continues
  • Yellow warning banner with countdown
  • Email reminders on Day 1, 3, and 6
  • Time to upgrade or reduce usage

After Grace Period (Day 8+):

  • CLI/API - Blocked with 403 errors
  • Files - Read-only mode (can view but not edit)
  • Team Members - Excess members automatically suspended (oldest first, owner protected)

Restore Access:

  • Upgrade to higher plan (instant restoration)
  • Reduce usage to meet limits (automatic restoration)

Can I upgrade or downgrade anytime?

Yes. You can change plans anytime:

  • Upgrades - Take effect immediately with prorated charges
  • Downgrades - Take effect at end of current billing period

Do you offer refunds?

Yes. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied, cancel within 30 days of your first payment for a full refund.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes:

  • Annual billing - Save 20% on Professional and Business plans
  • Academic/Nonprofit - 50% off Professional and Business plans

Does Contextium support Markdown?

Yes. All files use Markdown formatting with full support for:

Can I import existing documentation?

Yes. You can:

  • Copy and paste content into Contextium
  • Create files via API or CLI
  • Bulk upload using our import tools (contact support)

Version history starts from import date.

Does Contextium have version control?

Yes. Contextium automatically tracks every change:

  • Complete version history
  • Who made each change
  • Diffs between versions
  • Ability to revert to any previous version

Retention period depends on your plan (7 days to unlimited).

Can multiple people edit the same file?

Yes. Contextium supports real-time collaboration:

  • See who's viewing files
  • Live updates as changes are made
  • Conflict resolution if simultaneous edits
  1. Approve to apply, or reject with reason
  2. Approved changes create new version
  3. Full audit trail maintained

This ensures human oversight of all AI-proposed changes.

Does Contextium have search?

Yes:

  • Basic search (all plans) - Search file names and paths
  • Advanced search (Business/Enterprise) - Full-text content search with AI-powered ranking

Can I organize documentation hierarchically?

Yes, using multiple methods:

  • Projects - Top-level organization (e.g., "API Docs", "User Guides")
  • Folders - Nested hierarchies within projects
  • Tags - Cross-cutting categorization
  • Paths - Logical file paths

Collaboration

How many people can use Contextium?

Depends on your plan:

  • Starter - 1-2 users
  • Professional - 3-25 users

What are the different user roles?

Four roles with different permissions:

  • Owner - Full control including billing
  • Admin - Manage team and settings
  • Editor - Create and edit content
  • Viewer - Read-only access

Can I share documentation with people outside my workspace?

Public sharing is coming soon. Currently, viewers must be invited to your workspace.

For now, you can:

  • Export files as Markdown
  • Share via API (Professional plan+)
  • Invite as Viewer (read-only)

Does Contextium have notifications?

Yes. Receive notifications via:

  • In-app notifications
  • Email
  • Slack (Professional plan+)
  • Webhooks (Professional plan+)

Configure which events trigger notifications and delivery method.

Security & Privacy

Is my data secure?

Yes. Contextium uses industry-standard security:

  • TLS 1.3 encryption for data in transit
  • AES-256 encryption for data at rest
  • Regular security audits
  • SOC 2 Type II certified (Enterprise)
  • GDPR compliant

Who can see my documentation?

Only workspace members you invite can see your documentation. Data is isolated per workspace with no cross-workspace access.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can:

  • Export individual files as Markdown
  • Export all data via SettingsProfileExport Data
  • Use API to programmatically export (Professional plan+)

What happens if I delete my account?

When you delete your account:

  • 90-day grace period to cancel deletion
  • After 90 days, all data permanently deleted
  • Files in workspaces owned by others remain (authorship anonymized)

Does Contextium sell my data?

No. We never sell user data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How long does migration take?

Depends on documentation size:

  • Small (< 100 files) - Minutes with API/CLI
  • Medium (100-1,000 files) - Hours with scripting
  • Large (1,000+ files) - Contact support for assistance

Will I lose version history when migrating?

External version history doesn't migrate. Contextium version history starts from import date.

To preserve history:

  • Export old version history
  • Reference in Contextium
  • Or contact Enterprise sales for custom migration
